By controlling life-style and food habits, it is possible to live greater than 100 years of age without any serious health problem. As of late 2025, there are well over half a million people aged 100 or older (centenarians) worldwide, with estimates exceeding 573,000. Japan’s centenarian population reached a record high of nearly 100,000 (88% women). Next in the U.S. it is over 74,000, China approx. 49,000, India approx. 38,000 and in the UK 16,600. While Japan has the highest total numbers, regions like Hong Kong, Uruguay and Barbados have high rates of centenarians per capita.
